Get a banner on a website
The trick is to find the banners to place on the website and then make sure that the banner is stored somewhere properly so that the HTML code inside the page can find the banner. Here's what we need to do in this case: 1. Get a banner. To see the banners that SFI currently has available, go to the Sfimg.com menu and look for “Marketing Aids”. Once you are here you will have the option of choosing which program you want to promote. Let's say you want to start out with the /FREE gateway, so click on the banner link under FREE and it will take you to a page of SFI banners. Once you are here, find the banner you like, right click on it, and select SAVE IMAGE AS. This will open a box that shows the contents of your hard drive. You will need to pick a place on your hard drive to save your banner. Remember where you put it, and the name of the file. Click OK. Now, go to your hard drive by using your Windows Explorer or however you view the contents of your hard drive, and find the file. If you have an image viewing program loaded on your computer you should be able to double-click on the file and the image will pop up. Now you have the image captured on your hard drive. 2. Next, upload the image to your host. What this means is that depending upon who is hosting your website whether its Hot Yellow, Angelfire, whoever - they will give you specific instructions on how to upload files. You need to follow those instructions using the file you just saved to your hard drive. There are so many variables involved here with different hosting companies that I couldn't possibly go into explaining this step as it applies to each company. If you upload the file to a folder other than the folder where your index.html file is, you need to remember that. I would suggest creating a folder on your webpage host called IMAGES (on most hosts, files and folders are CASE SENSITIVE, so if you use CAPS you need to remember this as well) and save the file there. 3. Insert the proper HTML code into your webpage. I'm not going to go into an explanation of HTML, or how to build a webpage here. That is not a topic for my basic course. I will just tell you what the code needs to look like, and you will have to play around with it until it works. When inserting the image into your webpage let's assume that you created an images folder and put the file in there like I said. Let's also assume that the path to your particular page on your web host is www.freehost.com/12345. We will use MY /FREE gateway as the example destination page (I've Key Coded it .01 so I know the source of any new leads, as you should be doing as well. The number of the Key Code is not important, but you need to keep track of which Key Code goes with which of your advertising sources). Finally let's assume that you uploaded the file named banner1.gif. In this case, this is what you would want to put in your website: <a href="http://www.quickinfo247.com/3335264.01/free "target="_blank"><img src="http://www.freehost.com/12345/images/Banner1.gif" border="0"></a> That's all there is to it. Now if everything was done properly, you will have a banner on your website and when someone clicks on it, it will take them to MY gateway URL coded as .01. Of course you will need to change this to YOUR gateway URL as this was only an example. The target="_blank" portion allows you to have a new page open when they click on the banner. This way you can still have your homepage viewable so they don't lose it, and can come back to it easily. If you don't want a new page to pop up then delete this and your homepage will change to the new page when they click on the banner. The border="0" makes it so that there is no black border surrounding your image. You can add a border by replacing the "0" with a "1". |
